Writing a resume is far more than just chronicling your work history. Gone are the days when you called on an ad and an employer spoke to you first and asked for the resume later. Today, a resume is the first impression an employer has of a candidate and they are looking for the standouts - sharp, clear, resumes with good content. In the current job market, it’s common for an employer to receive fifty, sixty, sometimes even a hundred or more, resumes per job. So, it’s extremely important that your resume gets noticed if you’re going to get your foot in the door for that all important interview. You may be the most qualified candidate and possess the best credentials for the position, but unless your resume reflects your talents and professionalism, it will join the pile of rejects in the employers nearest circular file. Remember, the pile of rejected resumes is always larger than the pile of those who will be called for an interview.

I liked this blog post.
Sending (only) a "paper" resume to a potential employer in hope for an interview - regardless how nicely constructed - is "so - 1988". If you have researched the position (Example: Pharmacy Director for a 2400 bed LTC Pharmacy) and you really want the job - here's how to get an interview 100% of the time: (I guarantee!!)
1) Create a career portfolio. One sheet resumes are completely - yesterday. We live in a society where quality content is king - and you MUST stand out from the other aspiring pharmacists after that "coveted position".
2) Create a portfolio - that's driven from a DOMAIN that is 100% YOU! Your name is" David Peabody. Go get the domain - DAVIDPEABODY.com.
3) Place your picture, writings, education, reports, papers, YouTube Introduction, Twitter name, LinkedIn URL, Slide-Share presentation on ways to increase compliance/ safety, MTM Review thoughts, and how moderation of meds can help decrease falls in nursing homes,....and oh yes - that famous - one sheet resume too! (The suggestion of video resume in the blog was RIGHT ON!!)
4) Send the "ME" website to the potential employer - and be sure to leave a voice mail that you sent the message. Can't find the hiring managers email? MAIL them a FEDEX package (that's right - a FEDEX....will be opened every time, 100% of the time) with a cover letter, the portfolio, and your domain-name - inside.
5) Remember your digital footprint - is the new professional YOU! If it's questionable - clean up your Internet reputation and be sure to keep it squeaky clean.
6) Read the blog link by Pharmaceutical Strategies - and be sure your resume is sharp! Concise, spell checked, succinct, professional, UN-wordy.
Evolve with the times and don't you dare say "I'm not computer savvy enough" because a several generations behind you ARE and will eat your lunch (and your job) if you are not creative, professionally aggressive, and stand out from the pack!
And lastly - be glad I'm not a pharmacist - after the same position you are - because I'd already have the job. (LOL!!)
Just kidding.

(If I see these ideas in a publication by Pharmaceutical Strategies in the future - and I'm not referenced - I'll be very disappointed. This is gold.)

Best of Luck.
