This tip may come to a shock to some job seekers, but others who have made this mistake will understand.
Make sure when you’re uploading your resume, it’s actually your resume.
In the years I’ve been in recruiting I’ve seen a plethora of files uploaded that weren’t a person’s resume. Tax forms, phone bills, letters from lawyers, school papers, and so much more. Just the other day someone uploaded an entire Ebook instead of a resume. In our office, these always get a good laugh after wading through applications all day. It seems like something that would never happen to you, but one misclick or a poorly named file and you’re sending your 2013 W-4 instead of your resume.
How do you combat this? To start, you should try to label things correctly on your computer. But I understand that sometimes the slip of a mouse can mean the difference between uploading “Resume 2019” and “Recipes from Grandma.” A great idea is to make a folder on your desktop called “Job Search” or something similar and put all of your application files in this folder.
